At the heart of York’s most vibrant street Bishopthorpe Road sits Evolve Hairdressing, one of the city’s leading hair salons.

Established in 1994, Evolve Hairdressing York has gained a loyal customer base and a fantastic reputation for providing an exceptionally high level of service.

Our welcoming salon is relaxed yet contemporary with state of the art equipment, soft music, massage chairs and mood lighting.

Cutting edge or classic, our individual approach to unisex hairdressing is personalised to suit our individual client’s specific needs.

Evolve owner Linzi has more than 30 years’ experience within the hairdressing industry and was one of the first hairdressers in York to gain the WELLA Master Colour award, with extensive training within Wella Academies both in the UK and abroad.

Evolve use only the highest quality products including Wella and System Professional and can exclusively offer the Wella Alchemy Treatment Service - a luxury hair treatment service which matches specifically to your unique hair type to get the very best result.

I’d had a bad week at work and nearly cancelled my appointment as I just didn’t feel like going but how glad am I that I didn’t.

Ebony is just such a lovely person , who listens to what you want and makes great suggestions on how to make out hair look wonderful.

After having had my hair cut by a new member of staff and being quite unhappy with the result I left an honest review. The owner rang me the next day and booked me in with the manager to see what they could do. Dyan was excellent, she did a great job of my personalising the style, adding texture and shaping it to look as I had hoped. Very good customer service and very happy with the result.

I always enjoy my hair appointments at Evolve. The salon is modern, stylish and the staff welcome on arrival is always warm and friendly, followed by an invitation to refreshments without hesitation. Ebony, my stylist, immediately took the time to consult about concerns I might have with my hair and what I was looking to have done on the day, making me feel valued and in good hands. I was informed about products and their benefits, which are available for purchase should you wish to do so. The Olaplex treatment is amazing, with a 10-15 minute fabulous, relaxing head massage. I almost fell asleep! Ebony regularly asked if I was comfortable and happy with the ongoing process, making me feel like a valued customer and more importantly that the ultimate result would be one that I was going to be happy with. I left feeling uplifted and very happy with my new look! Can’t wait to return.

Evolve itself is a very good salon with nice staff & I've never had a bad haircut or service there before, however the cut I received from ***** was poor quality, no attention to detail whatsoever, technique seemed very old school. I was shocked when she went to take my robe off after just a once over trim round my hair - genuinely thought she had only just started!

Love the friendliness here and the fact that you can have interesting chats as well as a good haircut; you don't feel rushed through. I'd come from swimming so was immediately offered anti chlorine shampoo. The points system means you can save for products in refillable containers too.
The text reminders are v helpful (though there's a misspelling of 'you're'!)

It was my first time with ebony cutting my hair but she did a brilliant job and gave me the cut exactly how I wanted but what I loved more than anything was her willingness to turn my hair a pale pink despite having no previous warning or time to do so she made it happen and the results are absolutely beautiful albeit temporary.

Claire highlights my hair (which isn’t easy as transforming it from dark to a natural blonde) is quite difficult with Asian hair however claire’s Meticulous techniques ensure my colour is beautiful while keeping the condition soft and glossy - other technicians such as Charlotte And Ebony also outstanding in quality and service
